About Us

Village Church is all about Jesus. He's God. He's a man. By his sacrifice we've been made right with God. While death is painful, he's the reason it's not final. He's the most remarkable & unique person we've ever met. And we'd love you to meet him as well. He is God's gift to the world. God's unconditional, unmerited love towards us. He is grace.

Here are three ways this plays out at Village Church, and a video
of Emma- someone whose life has been changed by Jesus.

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.

Ephesians 2:4-5

God’s Word

We believe that God really speaks today and the way He speaks is through the Bible. So we work hard to understand and apply it. And we think this works best in community. No one person is the expert, and no one person stands above another. We’re shaped by God working through His Word, by His Spirit.

Grace & Authenticity

The Gospel is all about Grace. It tells us what we’re like – people who fall well short of our own expectations, let alone of God’s – and it tells us that God loves & saves us regardless. The Gospel is God’s unmerited favour in saving us when we couldn’t save ourselves. So in everything we do at VC, we want to not pretend we’re anything other than “sinners”, but point people to the place where our confidence lies – God’s goodness in Jesus.

Transformed, Sacrificial Lives

We think that God, by His Spirit, changes His people. He gives them new hearts and works in their lives so that they – bit by bit – grow to reflect the person He is making them to be – people who look like Jesus, with lives of humble, self-sacrificial love.

W e’re a Presbyterian Church, a campus of Mitchelton Presbyterian Church. If you’re interested, you can read what we believe about here.

Titus 2:11-14

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

Jesus & Us

Some people talk about religion. We talk about Jesus. It's less about what we've done or will do, and all about what he's done for us, and what it looks like to live in light of that. If you want the full picture, you can see it here, otherwise hear about how Jesus has shaped the lives of some people from Village Church below.

Village Voices

Hear Nat talk about life, loss, struggle & finding Jesus.

Steve from Village church talking about life, leukemia and God.

Hear Katie talk about how she doesn’t want God just to fit into her life, but to shape it.

Hear Ali speak about life, struggles, community and God.

Next Steps if you’re New

We love the idea of new people joining us at Village. If you're searching for answers or looking for a church home, we'd love to make it as easy as possible for you to do either of those. Here are two ways you can connect with us.

Next Steps Supper

The first Sunday of every month we get together after the service (6:30) to give anyone who’s interested more information about Village Church.

You can have something to eat, meet some newcomers, hear what makes Village Church tick, and find out what your next steps could be. No pressure, no obligation. Come along and see for yourself.

Newcomers Group

Four times a year we run a newcomers course. It goes for 5 weeks, it’s in one of our homes, and we’ll look at the foundations of Village Church:

  • The Gospel & Grace
  • How God Speaks
  • Community & Change
  • Sharing & Living the Gospel
  • Growing & Serving

We’ll have dinner together on the first and last nights, get to know each other, and you’ll be able to ask any questions you’ve got about Christianity, Village Church and why we do what we do. To come to the next one, just drop us a line and we’ll let you know when & where.

2 Corinthians 5:14-15

For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

We've got two aims. To help people get to know Jesus and to help his followers to follow him. We think this happens best in community. Below are some of the ways we're doing that. If you want to know more about any of the below, drop us a line, or come and see one team members on Sunday.

Exploring Christianity

If you want to know more about Christianity, or if you have some tough questions, we run regular nights anyone can come to, where they can ask and get answers to their questions.

Growth Groups

These are mid-week groups designed for regulars at Village to meet others, grapple with what God says in His Word and invest deeply in the lives of others. There are groups all over the city and new groups starting up all the time.

We believe that you don’t grow by merely being told how to live, but by having the life modelled to you. So we encourage (and try to help facilitate) mentoring for people in their walk with Jesus.

Sundays are a key time for our community. It’s where we all gather to encourage each other, to hear what God has to say, and to express the unity we have in Jesus. It’s open, accessible & understandable to everyone – even if you’ve never been to church.

Social Justice

Many people from Village Church are involved in aspects of social justice in Brisbane and beyond. We’ve got a team that’s currently meeting to work out how we can do more collectively. It’s open to anyone who’s got a heart for the vulnerable, the marginalised & the struggling.

Sharing the Gospel

Because we’re so keenly aware of how much God has done for us in Jesus, we’re keen to tell others. So we support a number of people who are sharing the Gospel overseas, as well as local ministries like Krosswerdz Hip Hop Church & AFES in universities. But in a city this big, where so many don’t know Jesus, we’re always looking for new ways to talk to people about what God has done for them in Jesus.

Ephesians 4:11-13

So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
