Marriage Matters

Friday, 19 August
7:00pm–9:00 pm St. Paul’s Church Hall

As some of you may be aware, we run the Alpha Marriage Course once every second year. The next one will be taking place in 2023. While this is a great course for those who haven’t done it as yet or for those who have recently got married, we believe there is a need to every other year have a time when couples can come together and have the opportunity to refresh their marriage. If this may interest you, then, why not save the date and come enjoy a time of informal and relaxed conversation around the topic of marriage.

At Marriage Matters, couples sit together and enjoy a three-course meal. Between each course, there will be interviews with other couples and points of discussion, to help enrich and encourage you in your married life together. You will not be asked to talk about your relationship publicly, but there will be the space for you to chat in private with your spouse. We are also looking at connecting people with child minding/babysitting folk for the evening.

The event is free, but please click on the link below to register and to let us know of any dietary requirements you may have and if you would like to be put in contact with potential child minders/babysitters.

A Thousand Lives Men’s Event

Saturday, 13 August, 43 St Paul’s Tce, Spring Hill, 12:00pm-3pm
Lunch will be provided. No need to register, simply come along.

The last few years have seen a variety of pictures of masculinity turned inwards and outwards, often to destructive results. But the Bible is not a stranger to the sinful currents of us blokes – it’s there from the beginning! This 1000 Lives, we’ll be hearing from a few Village men on the topic of anger – their history with this slippery emotion, and what the Bible both says and expects of disciples of Jesus when it comes to anger. And in the process we’re hoping we get to see how both our family of origin and our culture has perhaps unhelpfully shaped us.

Newcomer’s Lunch

Sunday, 14 August 2022, 12-2pm, St. Lucia
Lunch will be provided! (Dietary requirements will be catered for)

If you’re new to Village, we would love for you to join us at our newcomer’s lunch. Our hosts are Al and Tammy Jones.

On a typical  evening a team of chefs – migrants, international students, refugees, local cooks, asylum seekers or professional chefs will cook up a meal. All the money raised will go to cover the cost of the meal and will be put back into supporting the community.

Gather Women’s Event – Rhythm

Saturday, 14th May, 2.30pm, St Paul’s

Whether we realise it or not, we are shaped each day by practices – rituals and habits. While some of these practices are rooted in the church or Bible, most stem from the culture we live in. Some of these practices build us up, but some of them can drag us down or even hollow us out – leaving us feeling flat, bored, weary, even guilty. It’s hard to break these habits, even when we know they’re harmful.

Why do we feel the way we do? How do we form these practices, and in turn, how do they form us? What might our practices and habits look like if we aim our love towards God and fullness of life?

Come along and join us as we explore a ‘God-shaped’ rhythm in our lives.

2022 Easter Services

Please bring some hot cross buns to share for morning tea, and don’t forget to stick around for our BYO BBQ picnic lunch in Newfarm Park afterwards!

Our Easter Sunday Services will follow our regular Sunday schedule, with our Morning service from 9:30am at QUT; then our evening service from 5pm at St Paul’s, where we will be having a mini-food festival straight after the evening service. Great opportunity to invite our family and friends.

A Thousand Lives Men’s Event – Resonance

9:00am, Saturday, 26th March, 43 St Paul’s Tce, Spring Hill

We are increasingly living in a world that is screaming at us to move faster. We struggle to keep up. We feel guilty for not being a very good worker, parent, spouse, sibling, friend or follower of Jesus. The speed and rhythm of our lives can make us feel deflated and flat. It can even make us feel like we don’t really need God in our lives. But what if we’re not supposed to feel or be like this? What if we’re made to resonate at a different speed and rhythm? What does this ‘resonance’ look like?

If you are feeling like you are not measuring up, constantly falling behind, a bit flat or God seems to be distant then this is for you. If you are not experiencing any of these things, then come along and be an encouragement to others.

A Thousand Lives
Saturday, 27 November, 43 St. Paul’s Tce, Spring Hill
From 9am

As we’ve been journeying through Mark’s Gospel as a church, the constant call of Jesus is to “follow me.” But what does that look like for us today, as guys? What kinds of things are we called to give up, or to pursue? At this, A Thousand Lives session we’ll be thinking about those questions together, as well as hearing the stories of three Village guys, and what it looked like for them to take up the call to follow Jesus. Join us for brekky, and then for some time thinking about this idea together.  Head to the Facebook Event to register for catering purposes.

The Marriage Course

A great opportunity for married couples to strengthen their marriage during these challenging times.

Overview:
The Marriage Course is part of the Alpha series of courses. The sessions are designed to help couples invest in their relationship and build a strong marriage. Some couples do the course to intentionally invest in their relationship, others are looking to address more specific challenges. Either way, the course offers essential tools and practical ideas to help you build a relationship that lasts a lifetime. If you were part of the group who did the course during April/May 2020 you are more than welcome to join us once again.

Format:
Each week the group will meet via Zoom and watch an episode together that explores a different topic through real experiences, expert insights, and relevant teaching. The course also will provide an opportunity for couples to talk privately (offline) during the scheduled video breaks through the evening, where the material can be discussed in more detail. This provides space for couples to have, intimate conversations, helping them to engage openly and honestly throughout the session.

Facilitators:
Tony & Rhonda Hodge will be our facilitators once again, having first run the course for Village back in April/May 2020. They recently celebrated 36 years of marriage and have one adult daughter who lives in Melbourne. Tony works Monday to Thursday for Village in an Admin/Accounts role, and Rhonda works part-time in Administration for the Australian & New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists. Both have been involved in public ministry from 2003-2018. They love to travel and connect with people from all walks of life.
