Can You See? (Mark 8:1–30)

By Mark, Talks

As we wrap up our series in the first half of Mark’s gospel, all the questions raised are coming to a head. Who is Jesus? How can we know him? What does it mean to see him clearly? In Mark 8, the passage moves from blindness to sight, and if we are joining along, we too will see who Jesus is, as our powerful and compassionate God, who has come to die for our sake.

A Pure Heart (Mark 7)

By Mark, Talks

In Mark 7 we find two different responses to Jesus. The response of the religious person whose heart is far from God but who looks the part. And the response of the repentant person, who understands that God is not interested in purely a change on the surface but is more interested in a pure heart.

All Things New (Mark 6)

By Mark, Talks

Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve seen the power of Jesus on full display in his healings & authority over evil. In this passage, Mark shows us another dimension of Jesus’ power: his ability to make all things new. Today we’re going to be seeing how Jesus came to give us new life at great cost to himself.

Jesus, Hope for the Vulnerable (Mark 4:35–5:43)

By Mark, Talks

What can we do in the face of often overwhelming and confronting vulnerability for us as human beings? This week we’ll see four episodes of people in desperate and potentially hopeless positions. Jesus will speak and act to bring blessing but also confront our frail, broken humanity. We will be asked to draw near to Jesus in trust and faith, rather than shrink back in fear and unbelief.

The Hidden Kingdom (Mark 4:1–34)

By Mark, Talks

This week we are encouraged to look at the farmer in Mark 4. Look at the farmer, and you will see just how hard our mission is. It certainly isn’t for the faint-hearted. We need to ensure that the seed of the word of God is sown indiscriminately and liberally in every corner of the field. We do that because we know that seed that is sown in good soil will produce a harvest. With that knowledge, what are we to do? How are we to respond? How and why should we keep following Jesus?

A Broken Family (Mark 2:13–3:35)

By Mark, Talks

In this week’s passage, we see stories of people rejecting Jesus, and a lot of people being saved into Jesus’ new family. To everyone who calls on Jesus’ name for help, we see Jesus healing them, giving them rest, and forgiving their sins. And Jesus’ church the same today: it’s filled with broken people who have called on his name because they need his help. But it’s a great comfort that the onus isn’t ultimately on us to do what only Jesus can do: heal broken hearts, give true rest, and forgive sins.

Man on a Mission (Mark 1:16–2:12)

By Mark, Talks

So far in our new sermon series, Mark has started to show us who Jesus is. This week he shows us what Jesus came to do. Jesus tells people to leave everything else and “Follow me”. We’ll see why it might be worth doing that: only Jesus can meet our most desperate need.

The Wait is Over! (Mark 1:1–15)

By Mark, Talks

This week we are kicking off our new sermon series in Mark. The wait is over! Jesus Christ, God’s promised King, the Son of God, has come. The Old Testament testifies to his coming. John the Baptist testifies. The Triune God testifies, even the devil testifies to the good news that the Saviour of the world has come! Jesus himself testifies to the truth, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near.” If this is all true, then our lives can never be the same. We need to repent and start believing the gospel.
